本部分规定了适用于包含一个床垫支承台，预期用于睡眠/休息，以及预期用于帮助诊断、监护、预防、治疗、缓解疾病或补偿损伤或残障的设备的医用病床的基本安全和基本性能，适用于身高等于或大于146 cm，质量等于或大于40 kg，体重指数（BMI)等于或大于17的成人患者。
如果一个条款或子条款明确预期仅适用于医用病床或仅适用于ME系统的情况，则该条款或子条款的标题和内容中会说明。如果情况并非如此，则该条款或子条款同时适用于医用病床和医疗电气系统。
