ISO 11898-1:2015描述了多种长度的CAN帧，这些帧的最大有效载荷大小基于使用设备的协议。CLASSICAL CAN协议设备可以收发有效载荷大小为（0～8）字节的帧。CAN FD（灵活数据速率）协议设备可以收发有效载荷大小为（0～64）字节的帧。CAN FD协议设备也能够收发CLASSICAL CAN帧。
