本标准规定了测量ISO漫透射密度和f／4.5、f／1.6投影透射密度的几何条件。
漫透射密度主要应用在透明照明器(查片箱)上观看的影像、接触印制影像以及具有漫射照明系统投影的影像测量。
投影密度主要应用于带有聚光镜的影像测量。
虽然在本标准规定的密度测量方法主要用于影像测量，但是也经常应用到滤光器和其他透明材料的测量。
