本文件规定了现场检测和评估的程序，以确定核电站等工业设施中易受到选择性腐蚀影响的部件和结构因材料退化(如材料损失)等而产生的影响。
该方法包括原位目视检测和硬度测试，并辅以取样。这些程序分别包括：a)对选择性腐蚀敏感部件进行代表性取样；b)目视检测；c)硬度测试。为了进行准确的分析，建议进行额外的实验室检测。
该方法尤其适用于灰铸铁和锌含量超过15%的铜合金。若将其应用于其他合金，则需要提供已验证的支持性证据。
针对核电厂应用的评估准则，在延长运行期结束之前的五年内，定义了开展进一步工程评估和采取相应措施的必要性，例如，进一步取样、提高检查频率以及对部件维修或更换。
本文件不适用于无法通过光学手段或便携式硬度计进行检测的、与流体表面接触的代表性部件。同样，在如暖通空调系统(HVAC)或建筑服务设施等非代表性部件选择的情况下，本文件也不适用。对未用于核电厂的部件，评估准则需由双方协商。单独采用硬度测试的评价准则不适用于铝青铜、镍铝青铜(NAB)和铜镍合金的结构完整性评估。
